Embarking on a Disney cruise is an experience in itself, filled with excitement, a touch of magic, and plenty of memorable moments. Here’s how our day unfolded as we stepped aboard the Disney Dream for the first time, starting from the airport.
Travel Day: Same-Day Arrival
Yes, we opted to travel on the same day as embarkation, and while it can be a gamble, everything went surprisingly smoothly!
Early Start:
We were up bright and early, taking off from the airport around 6 a.m. and landing in Florida by 9:30 a.m. JetBlue was easy to navigate, and security was smooth. A bonus? Our carry-ons were checked for free, which gave us one less thing to worry about on the flight.
Disney’s Magical Transportation:
Upon landing, we made our way to the Disney transportation kiosk conveniently located right by the baggage carousel. Pre-purchasing the shuttle made the process seamless—we just had to wait for the next bus, and the staff efficiently organized everything.
Quick Tip: Keep some cash on hand for tipping the luggage handlers who assist you at the airport and terminal.
Arriving at Port Canaveral
Once we arrived at the port, the Disney magic began to shine through.
Luggage Drop-Off:
Before heading into the terminal, luggage staff took our bags straight to the ship. However, before handing anything off, make sure to keep your important documents and essentials with you—those bags will be out of reach until they’re delivered to your stateroom.
Security & Check-In:
After passing through security, we checked in and received our group boarding number. Because we used Disney transportation, we were automatically assigned to Group 3, which was an amazing perk! It allowed us to board early and start enjoying the ship as soon as possible.
Quick Tip: While waiting to board, log in to the Disney Cruise Line app and connect to the ship’s WiFi. This is the perfect time to preview your dining rotation assignments and set up the app’s messaging feature to stay connected with your group onboard.
Stepping Onto the Ship
The excitement was at an all-time high when our group number was called.
Photo Opportunity:
Before boarding, there’s a chance to take a picture in front of a Disney-themed backdrop. If you’re planning to purchase photos during the cruise or have already purchased a photo package, go for it. Otherwise, you can skip it and head straight to the ship.
The Iconic Entrance:
Walking through the giant Mickey ear entrance at the port was magical. We made our way up the escalator, sanitized our hands at the stations, and prepared to step into a world of Disney magic.

Welcome Aboard Moment:
At the entrance, the staff asked for our party name, then joyfully announced it as we entered the ship. “Welcome aboard the Manning family!” echoed through the atrium, and Goofy himself was there, waving to us from the grand staircase. It was such a warm and fun welcome to kick off our adventure!
Final Thoughts on Embarkation Day
Our embarkation day was smooth, magical, and filled with little moments of Disney charm. From the organized transportation to the warm welcome aboard, it set the tone for the incredible journey ahead.
If you’re planning your own Disney cruise, here are some key takeaways:
• Plan Ahead: Pre-purchase Disney transportation for convenience and early boarding perks.
• Keep Essentials Handy: Never part with your documents, medications, or anything you may need before accessing your stateroom.
• Utilize the App: Get connected early and familiarize yourself with the app’s features to make the most of your time onboard.
Next stop: exploring the ship and setting sail toward unforgettable family fun!
