Planning for 2026: A Surprise Cruise & Prepping Our 4-Year-Old for Adventure

Here we go again! Planning ahead shows that 2026 is already shaping up to be a BIG travel year for our crew. This time, we’re taking things up a notch with a double surprise:

We’re planning a cruise and surprising my parents with a dream trip they’ve always talked about, And we’re bringing our now 4-year-old along for their first real big-kid adventure.

Let’s talk about both of those wild (and exciting) challenges.

Surprise, Mom & Dad!

My parents have never been on a cruise. So we’re making it happen and keeping it completely under wraps. I’m already thinking of creative ways to surprise them: a “Pack Your Bags” reveal box? Plane tickets wrapped in Disney cruise brochures? We’ll see. But I know one thing, it’s going to be magical to see their reactions.

Meanwhile, Our 4-Year-Old is Growing Up Fast

The last time we cruised, we had older kids who could roam the ship’s kids’ club without much assistance. This time, our youngest is finally just old enough for the Disney Oceaneer Club, as long as they’re fully potty trained.

So yes… that’s our new mission for 2025: Operation Potty Train for Cruise Club Access.

And let me tell you, I’m motivated.

Why This Age is Both Perfect & Tricky:

Perfect because: They’re old enough to enjoy the characters, splash pads, and make friends in the clubs. Tricky because: They still need a good routine, down time, and patience when things don’t go exactly their way.

We’re planning to build the trip around everyone’s pace including grandma and grandpa and carve out those quieter moments for naps, snacks, or just sitting by the sea.

What I’m Planning Differently This Time:

Potty training goal deadline: 6 months before sail date for peace of mind Making sure our youngest is comfortable with independence and group play Coordinating rooms close to each other so everyone feels connected Reviewing Kids Club hours and making sure our little one gets a taste of freedom (and we get a mini break too!) Building in flexible shore days and rest time built right into the itinerary

2026 is going to be such a fun experiment in making travel magic for every generation in our family from my parents to our “big kids” to our newest little explorer. I’ll be sharing tips along the way, from planning to packing to pulling off this big surprise. So stay tuned and follow along.
